"I am going
to tell you a little about my '59 Corvette experience. I graduated from
High School in 1966 at Yuma, Arizona.
I bought a '59 Corvette the last year of
High School; I paid one thousand dollars for it, but I had my choice of the
'59 or a '54
Corvette. This was the time of Vietnam,
and a son had been killed over there. The father drove the '54 up to my
house and
it was in perfect condition, as was the
'59- Well, I didn't want a 6 cyclinder engine, and I didn't want
an old car when I could get
a newer car for the same price! 1K? I wasn't
stupid! Ha!!!!!
I sold my '59 for $600, and when I found
this one I was really elated to say the least!! I have had it for about
8 months, and
bought it from a friend who had a wife that
passed away about a year ago. He has had it since 1969, and drove it until
1976 when
he parked it. It has 94K original miles
on it! He registered it every year until 1980, and I have all of
the registrations and unused
license plate stickers, as well as the original
license plate of California for it! It says that it was first sold in
1958 but is a 1959
year!
One of your members said that the early
cars to come off of the line had alot of 1958 parts on them that were left over. Mine
has
a 1958 Hood and I was told that it was bought
that way(?). I will send you some pictures of it. It is in
real good shape for the year,
but I am going to restore it. It
has the original engine on a stand, and a brand new one that had only 15
miles on it when [the
previous owner] parked it.
[The previous owner] painted it purple
and I am going to put it back to the original colors. He said that
until now, it would have been
easier to get rid of alot of his previous
wives instead of that car, but he is in his 70s and knew that he wasn't going
to do anything with
it! It
came with a duel carb set up, and I would like to restore it back to that.
I am glad to hear about your activities,
and will give you all of the info that I can."
