"Hi
Jim,
I saw my Corvette listed on your website and thought you would like
an update.
I found my Vette in the January 1986 issue of "Vette Magazine".
My car was part of an Corvette pricing article written by Jerry Heasley
about the oldest Vette brokerage house in the country at that time called
Corvette Enterprise owned by Mike Kitain. Anyway, I contacted Mike Kitain
and subsequently purchased this Vette after reading the following description:
"And a recent consignment is a '59 white automatic with a 2-owner
history, rare power top (needs adjustment), paint a little weak, at
$12,500."
The Vette was located in Barnegat Light, NJ where I purchased it from
the owner, Jim Wells. The paint was weak (and still is), the power top
didn't work (still doesn't) but the car came with the original hard
top, Wonderbar radio (works), seat belts and the base 283 engine with
a 1x4. After a year of ownership, I determined that the car did not
have a 2-owner history but I was able to trace the car back to its original
owner and had the pleasure of speaking with him on several occasions.
The car was originally painted classic cream (yellow) at the factory
(verified by original owner, trunk scrapping and yellow paint traces
through out vehicle). The car is still white with silver coves and it
has a black interior. I've determined that the car is nearly mechanically
original and basically cosmetically original. It's missing the original
heads & original jack and needs a paint job. Beyond that, the car
is very solid (engine and tranny restored 2002) and I drive it every
other week or so.
By the way, Alan Blay did my insurance appraisal in 1986 just after
I bought the car. I lived in New York at that time but I currently reside
in Florida.
I
saw your Registry in the NCRS Driveline. I've been a member of NCRS
since 1986 but I never got around to checking out your website until
today. I submitted my Corvette information to an NCRS member (I think
his last name was Bob Cook) when I first bought the car. He promised
to send me his data when completed but he never did.
I'll scout around for a current picture of my car. If I can't find one,
I'll take it to a picturesque location and snap a few photos for your
Registry.
Regards,
Keith"
